Supervised Clinician
Samantha Johnston, MA, MEd, PsyD Candidate (she/her)
Samantha is a postdoctoral clinician in Clinical Psychology who completed her doctoral training at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, and her fifth-year residency with the Toronto Area Residency Consortium (TARC). Her clinical work focuses on psychological and neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy with adults. She is particularly interested in how cognitive, emotional, and developmental processes shape an individual’s sense of self and identity, their functioning in relationships, and the ways they understand and navigate the world. Her research and clinical interests also include sexuality, sexual health, intimate relationships, and masculinity.
Samantha is committed to providing neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-informed, and queer-affirming psychological and neuropsychological services. She approaches assessment as a collaborative and individualized process that can, in and of itself, be therapeutic. Rather than viewing assessment solely as a means of identifying symptoms or assigning diagnoses, Samantha sees it as an opportunity for clients to develop a more nuanced understanding of themselves. She is attentive to the ways developmental history, identity, relationships, and broader social and cultural contexts shape psychological functioning, and seeks to ensure that assessment reflects the complexity of each person.
Samantha also provides individual psychotherapy to adults. Her approach is relational and integrative, drawing on evidence-based modalities including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic approaches. She has extensive training and experience working with individuals affected by substance use and housing instability, severe mental illness, and complex psychosocial needs across community mental health clinics and skilled nursing facilities. She also has specialized training and clinical experience in sex and relationship therapy.
Samantha is practicing under the supervision of Dr. Rylie Moore.
