  • Starting therapy can feel like a big step. It’s normal to feel nervous, uncertain, or hopeful, and many folks share this with us. Your first appointment is a chance to begin getting to know your therapist in a space designed to feel safe, respectful, and supportive.

In this first session, we’ll talk about what brought you to therapy and what you would like support with. You are always welcome to share at your own pace. There is no pressure to tell your whole story right away, we recognize that building trust takes time. We also review confidentiality, go over any questions you have, and begin exploring your current concerns, important life experiences, and what you hope to get out of therapy. Billing & Insurance

  • Before setting up an appointment, you will be informed of our fees. When you schedule your intake appointment, you will be sent a handout on our fees and fee policies. The fees vary according to the training of our clinicians, and the treatment modality (e.g. individual, family, couple, group, consultation). Our fees are fully or partially covered by most insurance plans, and in many cases, are tax-deductible. Please arrange to pay for your session on the day of your appointment. bring payment to your first session, and to each session thereafter. We accept cash, debit, credit, cheques made out to Fusion Psychological Services, and Interac e-transfers.

  • Unfortunately, we do not offer direct billing at this time. However, you will be provided receipts following the payment of your sessions, which you can submit directly to your insurance provider. We strongly recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider prior to beginning sessions.

  • Unfortunately, OHIP does not cover any of the psychological services at Fusion. If you have a different health care plan, we instead recommend that you look into the extended health benefits offered to determine your coverage for specific services and professionals.

  • Often, yes! The details of a payment plan will depend on your clinician, so we recommend a discussion before your first appointment.

  • For students, we especially recommend working with one of our supervised clinicians so that the hourly rate is lower. We can also support your submission for an Ontario Bursary for Students with Disabilities through the Ontario Student Assistance Program.

  • In some cases, yes! In Ontario, many are now eligible to claim psychotherapy and/or psychological assessment as medical expenses provided by registered psychologists and psychotherapists. All of our receipts come detailed with the therapist’s name, license number, date of service, and amount paid per the requirements of the CRA. We recommend contacting a tax professional or accountant to explore whether there are tax credit options to offset the cost of your care.

  • If you have coverage through Blue Cross VAC, we can submit claims on your behalf. In order to do so, we will need authorization from your Case Manager.

If you do not have a case manager, you will need to provide our intake team with your unique VAC client number. We would need to create a preauthorization request on your behalf. Please note, preauthorization requests take between 2 - 4 weeks for a confirmation.

Once our clinic receives a response, we will contact you and advise the status of that request.

  • An assessment is a structured process used to better understand how a person thinks, learns, behaves, and feels. It involves interviews, standardized tests, and questionnaires to identify strengths, challenges, and possible diagnoses. The goal is to provide clear answers and practical recommendations for school, work, or daily life.

  • We offer assessments for adults, including psychological, neuropsychological, psychoeducational, ADHD, autism (ASD), learning disability, cognitive concerns, gender-affirming surgical readiness, and diagnostic evaluations. Each assessment is tailored to the client’s unique concerns and goals. We offer more information about the types of questions you may wish to address below.

  • A psychodiagnostic assessment is a comprehensive assessment that examines your social, emotional, physical, and behavioural symptoms in order to identify and, when warranted, diagnose a mental health disorder. A psychological assessment can be helpful in identifying unhelpful symptoms and/or patterns that perpetuate and maintain dysfunction. Psychological assessments can also be used in a variety of contexts to help you obtain necessary resources and/or accommodations at school or work, as well as help you gain access to a variety of community programs.

  • A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that examines how your brain is functioning across areas such as attention, memory, language, and executive functioning. It looks at how these cognitive abilities interact with your emotional, behavioural, and physical health to better understand changes or difficulties in day-to-day functioning. It is particularly helpful when you are concerned about changes in thinking or behaviour related to neurological conditions, such as brain injury, concussion, stroke, epilepsy, or neurodegenerative disorders. At Fusion, neuropsychological assessments also cover the content of a psychodiagnostic assessment.
